The Ministry of Health has directed the 11 colleges to amalgamate by the end of June 2024.
In recognition of this significant undertaking, the Ministry of Health has committed to providing initial funding to begin amalgamation work and additional funding for resources required to implement these amalgamations.
Regulatory health colleges recently received a letter from the Ministry of Health outlining next steps for the amalgamation of 11 health regulators into two colleges. As a reminder, this involves:
- The creation of a new college of allied health professionals through the amalgamation of:
- College of Dietitians of British Columbia
- College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia
- College of Optometrists of British Columbia
- College of Opticians of British Columbia
- College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia
- College of Psychologists of British Columbia
- College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia
- The creation of a new college of complementary and alternative professions through the amalgamation of:
- College of Chiropractors of British Columbia
- College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia
- College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia
- College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturists of British Columbia
